The Lamp Post
Phoca Guestbook
Welcome to our Guestbook - affectionately known as
The Lamp Post.

Feel free to leave some messages for us, and each other, here. In other words, take a moment to tell us a little bit about yourselves & your dogs.

Small print ;-)

The book is moderated to protect you (and us) against spam, adverts and malicious comments, so your entry may take a few hours to appear on the site - we are sure that you'll understand. Also, if your message is construed to be offensive or unrelated to EGLR and rescue dogs
(in other words "off topic"), it is unlikely to be published.

In other words, no 'babies' and no 'recipes' (unless it's for dog biscuits, or shortbread) ...
p.s. Pip got stuck using the Lamp Post, so we've got some help for you here.

Linda Hutton: to the webmaster

PLEASE, will you take the Waitrose Malvern link off the Home page. This was a month long thing for March, as I think I made clear. It's long since over and done with and you posted the result on the Lampost, so it's terribly misleading to leave the message up. ELGR's name will be up on the noticeboard in the store, so it's not out of mind there, but there is no further facility to raise funds there at the moment. I think it needs to be clear - especially as you are appealling for money right now - otherwise folks will think there's more coming from that soirce when there isn't.

Helen Matthews: Scruffts

We adopted Jake (aka Andy or Pup No. 1) in October 2007 from yourselves and he has now qualified for the Scruffts championship at Discover Dogs in London in November of this year.  It just goes to show what can be achieved by these beautiful unwanted/abandoned lurchers.

Beccy Stephens Cashes Green Stroud: Rough & smooth coats

To add to Clare's coments on smooth coated dogs - they tend to leave less hair lying around to hoover too, and they don't take so long to dry off after a rainy walk.

May I also add, in the time Clare has been taking care of the wonderful Bryn, I have met the lad twice & on both meetings he has come accross as a wonderful boy with lots of love to give. I have enjoyed wonderful cuddles with him. He is a stuning lad & has been well behaved with my extremely over bouncy puppy in busy circumstances.

Hope these comments are not being made out of turn, he really is a wonderful boy & a credit to Clare & EGLR.

Clare: Rough Coats and the Smooth

Hi all, having just aided in the rescue of Scruff I am writing to appeal to people on behalf of the smooth coated dogs.  Scruff is a lovely dog but please don't overlook the smooth coated dogs who are just as lovely and sometimes easier to keep.  I have been fostering for 4 years now and it always seems that as soon as a rough coat dog arrives the phones go nuts (I had 4 phone calls about Scruff last night), and yet I have been fostering Bryn for over a year, he too is a lovely dog but overlooked because of his general appearance.  I simply ask that people consider these smooth coated dogs who don't need grooming everyday and who have just as much love to give.

Thanks  Clare, Bryn, Fox and Scruff

Guest: Rachel

I've been on your site on behalf of a friend who is hoping to get a lurcher pup after recovery from a foot operation. Just wanted to say what a brilliant website you've got, really informative and love the jokes! Also wish I could adopt all the dogs! Hopefully my friend will be in contact with you very very soon. Keep up the good work.

Liz: Ollie's (2) History?

Ollie(2) looks an awful lot like my Finn, one of Missy's pups, and I reckon he will be around the same height when he's fully grown.  Since I have no idea of his background or mix, am just curious whether anyone knows anything about where Missy came from and if Ollie came from the same area?

Clare: Bryns foster mum

Hi Ellie

Bryn is about 25" to 26" inches to the shoulder, he feels like a big dog but can curl up in a suprisingly small space.  He is a very affectionate boy who wants to play and give loads of kisses.  If you want to chat about him give Pip a call and she will give you my number.  He's a lovely boy and I don't know why he has stuck with us for so long.

Di: Black Lurchers

Hi - we are a 3 lurcher household with 2 almost black brothers of 18mnths.    I remember reading somewhere that black dogs are often overlooked for the "prettier" colours so thought I would write on behalf of all black dogs everywhere and say

"please dont overlook us as we are really very beautiful and so elegant when our coats are shiny and our noses are wet"

Love the new website too!

Linda Hutton: Update on Waitrose

Just a quick one to let you know that the month has now come and gone at Waitrose. A donation of £211 will be winging its way towards Pip sometime soon - which is good news, especially as it comes quite separately to those from the lovely folks who dig into their own pockets. It's also good that there's now a big display at the front of Waitrose that shows which charities the Malvern branch has already supported. So ELGR will have a permanent spot up there soon too, and anyone perusing the donations will see the name of the charity! Anyone who has a different branch of Waitose near them - hi to all you folks in Droitwich! - get putting your recommendations in to them because the selection is done branch by branch! (PS Alcester is getting a small Waitrose but it remains to be seen whether this scheme will run with them, but keep an eye out just in case.)Laughing
