Waitrose in Malvern helps EGLR

This is just a quick line to let everyone know that as of this week and for the coming month, EGLR is one of 3 charities being supported in Waitrose, Malvern.

The system in Waitrose is called Community Matters, and what happens is that every shopper gets given a token as they go through checkout. They then chose one of three nominated charities for the month and put their token into the perspex box by the door. At the end of the month, Waitrose weighs all these tokens and divides a donation of £1,000 between the three proportionally. It's proved very successful because the customer doesn't have to pay a penny of their own cash!

It's a system Waitrose is committed to keep going, and they've found that customers who don't have a preference for any of the three usually put their token in the one with the least number.

It also means that for a whole month EGLR gets a high profile in a major store, since you can't walk out of the store without passing an A4 card with details on it in nice bold green letters!

So if you know anyone who shops in the Malvern Waitrose, give them a ring and tell them where to put their tokens!!!!

Website problems

As Jonathon Ross would say "So where were we?".

The more observant of you will have noticed the website has been down for a couple days.  The hosting company was having "technical problems" (we think they left some lurcher puppies unattended in the server room, but what do we know).

We took advantage of this to swap the servers, so while the site is back, there may well be one or two hiccups on pages for the next day, please bear with us, we're working on it.

We need your stories

Dear EGLR supporters,

We really need your input to make the newsletter work, if you have anything you'd like to see published in the newsletter, please send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We know everyone is very busy, but Sophie is not going to get this one off the ground without help!  Tales of fostering ("failed" (and there is NO such thing as a "failed foster"!) or otherwise), happy homing stories,  anything about your EGLR dog.

Put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboards and get in touch :-)

Tail wags to you all.

New Year, New Website
"Happy New Year"
to every dog and their people

With the New Year we are rolling out a new website that will (hopefully) make updates easier.  The new site is wholly owned by EGLR and will allow different volunteers to contribute so that if one person is off with the 'flu, we'll still be able to get updates to you.

Don't worry though , we won't let Pip touch this, as any computer she touches keels over.  She's great with dogs, just rubbish with technology.

The old guestbook has now been replaced with "The Lamp Post" and we will be adding new sections, including a "Happy Endings" section.

Take a look around and if you find something that does not work, or are having any trouble finding your way around,  please let us know This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you have any suggestions, let us know too, we won't be able to do everything, but are open to new ideas :-)

EGLR Calendar on sale now!
At last, the long awaited EGLR 2009 calendar is available for sale in the EGLR Shopping Mall.

The perfect gift for all your "doggie" friends.

You can order from the shop, or by phone (01453 872 876). Each calendar is £7, plus £1 p&p.
Dry Dog Food
With all the dogs coming in, we are very low on dog food - especially puppy food. Please consider buying an extra bag for the dogs, if you can.

Thank you !
Desperately need more foster homes
Time is running out, and we urgently need more foster homes to help us assess the dogs coming in. Christmas is always a really busy time for us and dogs are coming in thick and fast.

If you can commit to a minimum of three weeks fostering, please give Pip or Linda a call.

We will need to know your home circumstances (dogs/cats/kids etc) and will need to do a home-check to ensure we place the right dog with you. We can't do this without your help!
