Very Sad News

We are very sad to announce the passing of Rebecca Rea or as many of us knew her, as Becky (Becky from Birmingham). Becky was a fosterer, transporter and a loyal supporter of EGLR and joined us shortly after adopting her lurcher called Filch 7 years ago and decided she wanted to help more dogs like him because she always had a soft spot for the long nose variety dogs, owning many of them over the years.

Becky was the type of person that you could always call on in times of an emergency and was always willing to assist anyone, four legged or two, that needed help. She was willing to drive all over the country to fetch a dog in distress and always dragged one of her 3 sons along for the ride.

Over the years Becky fostered many dogs, from young dogs to the elderly (and some of them were very naughty!) but Becky never moaned or complained. All she wanted was to look after them and find them the best home possible.

Her family have very generously and kindly requested that donations to be made to EGLR instead of flowers at her funeral.

Becky leaves behind her husband Dan, her 3 sons Will, Sean and Ed and her 2 EGLR dogs Bear and Filch. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Happy Christmas

Everyone at EGLR would like to take this opportunity to wish all our friends and supporters a Very Happy Christmas, and thank you for your continued support. We have had a very busy year in 2013 and are happy to say we have been able to nurse back to health and re home a great many dogs that have come into our care. Without your continued help and support we would simply not be able to do the work we do so would also like to say a very big thank you to you all.

We have no doubt that if you check in here on our website or follow us on Facebook you will have seen recently that despite it being Christmas the influx of new dogs has in no way slowed down and there are still many dogs hoping that Santa Paws will bring a forever home for them. With the volume of dogs we currrently have we need your support more than ever and would like to put out a plea for any help you may be able to offer at this time. We are currently in great need of food, both puppy and adult, bedding is also in short supply and of course cash to help with our vets bill is always very welcome.

Any help or donation you may be able to send us would be so very gratefully received and will go directly towards looking after the dogs in our care.

Sad News

Red It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Recently our oldest resident lurcher Red passed over to rainbow bridge. We all know the loss that Pip will be feeling now and for many days and weeks to come.

Red came to rescue in a terrible state with his sister Sophie they had both had a horrible life before finding a safe place with Pip where they stayed together until Sophie crossed over a few years ago but now they get to run free together again.

I know anyone that meet Red will know how special he was and how much he will be missed. He was always the first to the door to investigate any new dog that entered his home and gave then the seal of approval.

We will miss you so much Red.

Can you help us?

As many of our regular supporters will know over the last few months we have been caring for many dogs that have needed a high amount of vet care. This has left us with rather large vets bills to pay. So to raise a bit of much need funds we now have some extra EGLR collection boxes to send out to anyone that has a small business that would be happy to put a collection box in to collect the loose change of their customers.

If you are interested in having a collection tin please can you call Pete on 01386 861438 or 07771 984897 .

Thank you for your continued support.

Meet Dylan

Dylanfront Please meet the lovely Dylan a very sweet but very bold lurcher that has come to us in a terrible state. This poor lad has got a horrific case of mange and is under going a very aggressive treatment plan to get this under control and make him feel a lot better, these pictures have been taken after 3 weeks of vet treatment, as you can see he is nearly completely bald but should in fact have a lovely scruffy coat. The road to recovery will take many weeks and involve a huge amount of veterinary care to get him back to anywhere near normal.Dylanfront1Dylanfront2

We have also put some pictures of him when he first came to us so you can see the state he was in then and how well he is doing so far. We will keep you updated but for now please send lots of healing thoughts to this very special lad. If you think you might be able to give Dylan a forever home please take a look at his full profile on the dogs to adopt page.

News about our Shopping Mall

The EGLR Shopping Mall is currently undergoing a bit of a refurbishment and at present we are not able to take any orders. We hope to have it back up and running soon with lots of new Lurchery things to buy. So please during this time do bare with us and we will let you know just as soon as the doors are open again.

Thank You.

Meet Teala

Teala Not 2 weeks after Tulip's arrival in the rescue we were contacted to help another desperate dog in need, we called her Teala, a very sad sorry state of a saluki cross. She was underweight and covered in infected sarcoptic mange, her skin was red hot and so sore she was taken to our vets where immediate treatment began.Teala1

She was put on regular aludex baths and antibiotics to help get the infection under control. Teala has been completely neglected both physically and mentally, even with all the treatment we are doing she must be so uncomfortable yet she is so quiet not making a sound and is always such a good girl when visiting the vets.

Teala2It will take some time before her skin heals and her fur grows back but we are hopeful for a full recovery.

We will keep you updated on her progress.

Great news Teala has now found her forever home with a wonderful new family.
