Summer was recently found straying with a terribly damaged rear leg. Sadly, after being examined by our vet, it was discovered that the injury was old and unfortunately could not be repaired. The only option left was to amputate the limb that had been causing her so much pain.
But Summer’s troubles didn’t end there. She arrived incredibly underweight and it was clear that she had been bred from multiple times. She is also covered in numerous scars. What her previous life was like, we can only imagine — but whatever she has been through, she certainly deserves a brighter future.
Summer underwent surgery to have her leg amputated, but sadly her recovery hasn’t been straightforward. She suffered significant bleeding following the operation and needed pressure bandages to help control it. She also required strong pain relief and medication to keep her calm and rested, giving her wound the best possible chance to clot and begin healing.
Our brave girl spent five days in our vets, where she received the very best care. Thankfully, she was finally well enough to come home on Tuesday and continue her recovery with us.
Despite everything she has been through, Summer is the sweetest girl. She has adapted amazingly well to life on three legs and is already starting to enjoy little potters and mooches around.
She is being given regular small meals to help build her weight and strength back up, and day by day we’re watching this incredibly resilient girl become a little stronger.
Summer has been through more than any dog should have to endure. Now it’s time for her to know nothing but love, kindness, comfort and a life she can finally enjoy.
Please keep our brave Summer in your thoughts as she continues her recovery. She really is one very special little dog
